Begun in 1902 and finished in 1906, this bridge was built to facilitate transportation and communication with communities south of the Brazos River and the County seat at Weatherford which felt a greater connection to Hood County than to Parker. It was a one-lane bridge, 16 feet wide, with oak flooring. When it opened, it caused the nearby ferry business, Brannon’s Crossing, to close. Sadly, this iconic bridge collapsed into the Brazos River in 1983, a victim of long neglected maintenance.
